Having a child can be the most wonderful experience, however, parenting is often challenging and at times can be overwhelming without appropriate support.   Our strong background in child and adolescent development supports our clinical work with families. We help families navigate through life stages including adjustment to separation/divorce and blended family arrangements.

Developing a strong bond with a parent is the most important factor in child development and all later learning.  The World Health Organization found that positive, close relationships immunize children against stress throughout their lives (Carl Hanore, Under Pressure, 2008).  Young people who report having close, affectionate and understanding parents have fewer symptoms of depression (Statistics Canada, 2005).   Although we may have sessions with your child or adolescent individually, our work is always focused on fostering healthy, strong bonds between family members.

It is important to take action and seek help for your child or adolescent if you have concerns about his/her mental health as suicide is the second leading cause of death for late teens and young adults (Statistics Canada, 2008).   Visit your family doctor or get immediate support from your local hospital in emergency situations.  It is often difficult to get troubled youths to go for help.  We have found that they are sometimes more open to seeing a private therapist.  We can provide an assessment, individual and family counselling, and when needed help you get connected with community resources and medical support.

“If you don’t like something change it; if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” (Maya Angelou)
